Pennsylvania announces new COVID measures.

Pennsylvania reported a record 5900 new COVID-19 cases the same day Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine announced new mitigation measures to stop the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

Governor Tom Wolf explained, “It is our collective responsibility to protect our communities and our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians from COVID-19 and to continue to work together to get through this pandemic. These targeted mitigation efforts, combined with the existing ones, are paramount to saving lives and protecting our economy.”

The new measures include:

  • A strengthened mask mandate that requires masks to be worn indoors (even if physically distanced from others) and outdoors if you are away from your home and unable to remain physically distanced (at least 6 feet away) from another person the entire time you are outdoors. This order applies to all indoor facilities including homes.
  • Traveler testing requires anyone who visits from another state to have a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to entering Pennsylvania, and if unable to get a test then quarantining for 14 days upon arrival.
  • A continued recommendation that residents of the state avoid large gatherings.
  • Routine testing of returning students at colleges and universities along with adequate capacity for isolation and quarantining for students.

These new regulations on travel do not apply to people who commute from another state for work, and interstate commerce will continue with enhanced safety practices for masks, hand washing, and social distancing to keep important supply chains moving.
